Even though your away from the hustle and bustle which is bliss. The staff are friendly and welcoming they are efficient and professional. Rooms are spacious and comfortable with nice facilities and great views. I wanted personal training and they were able to have a trainer to come up and train me which was great and I'm even feeling focused about my fitness more on my return home. The foods high quality and were able to specify food for my needs (I'm a fussy eater) This was a totally enjoyable experience I'm so glad I chose Samui Ridgeway I can't thank the team there enough I am now one stress free man and I look forward to visiting again

Stay in Tropical Paradise on Koh Samui, Thailand

This week we’ve been chatting to Nikki, the guest relations manager of mountaintop hideaway Samui Ridgeway Estate and Spa in Koh Samui, Thailand. Nikki reveals her favourite places on the island, explains what is unique about Samui Ridgeway and tells us why she loves living in paradise (aside from the obvious).
What do you recommend a first-time visitor do or see during their stay at Samui Ridgeway?
I absolutely recommend our guests make use of our on-site spa. Our two therapists are amazing and combined with the fabulous setting, you have a recipe for complete relaxation. You will leave us feeling like a prince or princess! Our five-person hydrotherapy Jacuzzi hot tub, situated outside on the spa decking is also an absolute must. Sitting in that tub with a glass of bubbly in your hand and a gorgeous sunset in the background is lushness personified.
Offsite, I highly recommend a trip to the local islands of Koh Tan and Mudsom by a private, traditional Thai longtail boat. There is fantastic snorkelling to be had just off the coast of Koh Tan, and Mudsom is an amazing little island with stunning white sandy beaches. A trip to a local temple is also a must for first time visitors. As well as beautiful architecture, it’s always interesting to learn about local beliefs and culture when you travel somewhere.
What about someone who regularly visits?
There are lots of brilliant little beaches, restaurants and bars just off the beaten track so my advice is to hire a scooter or car and explore. Allocate at least one day of your holiday to simply go exploring and see where you end up, I’m still discovering great little hidey-holes every week. A particular favourite spot of mine is Hideaway in Thong Krut which is a great little bar/restaurant right on the beach with stunning views, great food and great locals!
Name one must-try Thai food or drink.
A fresh, young coconut to drink is a must. Either have it fresh as it comes, or ask them to make a coconut shake for you, served in the coconut! It’s fresh off the tree, cheap and delicious.
We’ve heard a lot of great things about Shelagh, the owner of Samui Ridgeway. How has she shaped the estate?
The property was built as Shelagh and Bob’s family home, so that’s what it will feel like when you are there: a home away from home. Shelagh also has her own beauty products company called Simply Samui. She creates the products from scratch here in Thailand and they are 100% organic and natural. These are the products given complimentary to our guests in their en-suite bathrooms and used in our on-site spa. Her shop is also only a 10-minute drive from the villa, so guests can make a shopping trip there to stock up on their favourite goodies after sampling them.
What’s your favourite part about working at Samui Ridgeway?
It’s a tropical paradise with something on offer for everyone: old or young, party animal or detox health guru! I also love meeting and interacting with new people, and working at Samui Ridgeway gives me the opportunity to meet and greet people from all walks of life. To top it off I get to do that in an island paradise, in a villa with the best sea views I have ever seen.
I also really love what Shelagh has created at the villa, the ambiance and the friendly touch she has given the place shines through to the staff as well. We have a great team; we are our own little villa family, something I believe our guests notice. It helps them get comfortable and enjoy their time with us.
Name one item a guest should pack for their visit.
The only essential you really need to bring is your passport. That might sound ridiculous and corny, but everything else you could want for your holiday can be purchased here for a very reasonable price. It’s also great fun visiting the local markets and hunting for bargains, but remember to haggle every time. The locals here expect tourists to try to bargain with them, so they will always start by naming a price far too high.
Are there any events coming up near Samui Ridgeway?
There are always events happening on Samui! New Year is always a fantastic event over here, and in April the Songkran festival is a definite must-see. It’s a lovely atmosphere for old and young, with the Thai locals and “farangs” (tourists) all enjoying the fun together!
As you’ve mentioned, the scenery is amazing. Do you have any recommended routes for walking or running?
Our property is situated up a mountain, in a tropical jungle setting with the beach only a 10-minute drive away. For those brave enough, a walk or a run down the mountain and back up will leave you feeling like you’ve had a great workout. If you prefer, a short drive to the local beach and then a run or a walk along the beach is also beautiful!
Lastly, is there anything about Samui Ridgeway that just can’t be put into words?
I mentioned before about the stunning views, but it really is something that you can’t capture in a photograph or imagine when you read about it. Every day the view is slightly different, both during the day and when the sun sets, and the views are literally breath-taking! The first time I drove up to to the estate I was stunned (and so was my best friend who has lived here for four years!). It genuinely is the most gorgeous view I have seen on Samui, and I never tire of it.
